Healthy shorelines do more than look beautiful — they help protect water quality, reduce erosion, and support wildlife throughout our watershed.
On Tuesday, May 12th, Boothbay Region Water District is partnering with Boothbay Region Land Trust, Knox-Lincoln Soil & Water Conservation District, and the Maine Forest Service to host a free, hands-on staking demonstration at Oak Point Farm in Boothbay Harbor.
Led by Maine Forest Service District Forester Jared Gregory, this workshop will introduce participants to the basics of live staking — a simple but effective shoreline restoration technique that uses cuttings from native woody plants to stabilize streambanks and shorelines naturally over time.
Whether you’re a waterfront property owner, a gardening enthusiast, or simply interested in protecting local waterways, this is a great opportunity to learn practical restoration techniques directly from conservation professionals.
Please dress for outdoor conditions and bring work gloves and pruners / loppers if you have them available.
Extra tools will be provided.
We’re excited to be part of this regional educational series focused on protecting the places that make our community special — one shoreline at a time.
Join local conservation partners for this free outdoor workshop and hands-on demonstration at Oak Point Farm.
