Boothbay Region Water District Earns 3rd Place at National Water Taste Test

We’re proud to share some great news from Washington, D.C. —

The Boothbay Region Water District earned third place in the 27th Annual Great American Water Taste Test this February!

After winning Maine’s top honor in 2025, BRWD was selected to represent our state at the national competition, where the best-tasting drinking water systems from across the country go head-to-head. To place in the top three nationwide is a tremendous achievement — and one our whole community can celebrate.

This recognition reflects the care and commitment that go into our water every single day. From routine testing to careful treatment and maintenance, our team works behind the scenes to make sure the water you turn on at home is safe, reliable, and — now on a national scale — officially award-winning.

While accepting the award, our team took a moment to recognize the people who make it all happen:

“I’d like to thank John and Aaron. They both work in the plant and they do a good job taking care of our water.”

That shout-out goes to John Orne, Chief Treatment Plant Operator, and Aaron Durgan, Treatment Plant Operator — along with the entire BRWD team who help keep things flowing smoothly.

Of course, great water doesn’t happen by accident. It’s the result of strong infrastructure, dedicated professionals, and a community that values clean, protected water sources. This national recognition belongs to all of us.

So next time you pour a glass from the tap, take a moment to enjoy it — you’re drinking some of the best water in the country. Not bad for a small coastal community.

Congratulations to our team, and thank you to our customers for your continued trust and support.

Our Commitment to Water Quality & Conservation
